Our Story

Our journey began in the early 1960s with the visionary Ismael Ahmed Limbada, dedicated to delivering exceptional engineering solutions. Ismael Ahmed Limbada honed his skills in Pakistan with Taylor Woodrow, contributing to the pre-stressing of numerous bridges across the Indus River. His expertise extended to London, where he made significant contributions to the iconic Terminal 2 of Heathrow Airport before returning to Mauritius.

Upon joining the Ministry of Works, he quickly became a pivotal figure in civil and structural engineering, eventually rising to the position of Chief Engineer of the island. During Mauritius’ transition to independence, amid a burgeoning private sector and a shortage of engineers, I.A. Limbada was granted permission to practice privately while fulfilling his public duties, leaving a lasting imprint on the island’s development.

In 1975, Limbada Melvin and Partners was established in collaboration with Mr. Godron Melvin, a renowned British firm with a strong African presence. Mr. Mohmed Iqbal Limbada joined as Director in 1975 following his studies in Manchester. This marked the firm’s ascent to becoming the premier civil and structural engineering consultancy in Mauritius. In 1986, the firm evolved into Limbada & Limbada Consulting Engineers Ltd (LLCE Ltd).

We have built a reputation for delivering high-quality services and innovative, cost-effective solutions. Our portfolio includes landmark projects such as the State Bank Headquarters in Port Louis, featuring Mauritius’ only composite steel structure with a cofferdam basement, completed in 1996 and standing as the region’s tallest building at the time. We also achieved a record-breaking concrete portal frame with a 23-meter span for Chantier de Plaisance in 2000.

From engineering to a global consultancy beyond Mauritian borders

We have been entrusted by clients with numerous projects, serving as the single point of contact from design inception through supervision and coordination to final handover.

In 2002, Khalid Limbada joined the practice, introducing a new division capable of managing and delivering large-scale projects. We have since evolved into a global consultancy offering MEPD services, project management, and construction management.

Notable projects include the extension of Le Méridien Ile Maurice (2005), The Grand Mauritian (2008), and The St. Regis Mauritius Resort (2012), showcasing our proven track record in the field. Today, our services extend beyond Mauritius and the African continent. Our journey, which began more than half a century ago, is driven by our commitment to delivering excellence worldwide.
